The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) has announced the start of its token identifier project roll-out to update 55 000 prepaid electricity meters in its operational areas.
This has been announced by Cenored spokesperson Charlie Matengu.
Matengu said the project will be conducted under the theme ‘Get Your Prepaid Meters Updated – Don’t Be Left in the Dark’.
He said the current meters will become non-operational on 24 November this year.
“The project officially kicked off on 25 October 2023, with completion expected for July 2024. The software that runs all electricity prepaid meters worldwide will expire on 24 November 2024.
“Cenored, therefore, joined the rest of the world in rolling out the token identifier project to update all electricity prepaid meters within our operational areas,” he said.
Matengu added that the project will be executed by Cenored electricians who will be identified by Cenored-branded attire, cars and identification cards.
“We wish to appeal to all our prepaid customers to cooperate with our electricians by granting them access into their premises in order to upgrade and update the prepaid meters,” Matengu said.
