The Windhoek City Council is set to elect its new leadership on 1 December.
The municipality informed the media on Wednesday that a special council meeting would start in December.
During this meeting the councillors will elect a new mayor, deputy mayor and management committee.
“The special council meeting, which covers the nomination, election, and inauguration of the 2023/24 term of office, remains as scheduled, Friday, 1 December 2023,” a notice reads.
Last year the council could not elect new leaders after councillors from both Swapo and the Independent Patriots for Change walked out of the election meeting moments before members were expected to cast their votes.
It took the councillors over three months to agree on and elect a new leadership after the minister of urban and rural development, Erastus Uutoni, warned the council to act on the matter.
