THE southern, central, western and eastern regions of the country are expected to experience extremely cold weather conditions this weekend, accompanied by strong winds, frost, and rain showers in certain areas.
This is according to Namibia Meteorological Services’ latest weather forecast, which indicates that the //Kharas, Hardap, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Khomas, and Omaheke regions will likely be very cold this weekend, with some areas in these regions expected to record sub-zero temperatures.
These conditions will likely be accompanied by a fresh to strong south-westerly wind in the interior, as well as frost in some areas such as the Khomas Region’s Windhoek. Additionally, the Hardap and //Kharas regions, in particular, can also expect thundershowers on Saturday. However, this weekend’s rain showers will not be limited to these regions only.
According to Namibia Meteorological Services, the lowest temperatures for Saturday are expected in the central areas, with Windhoek and Rehoboth expected to record minimum temperatures of -2°C and -3°C, respectively. The maximum temperatures for these areas are predicted to range between 11°C and 12°C.
Several other areas are also expected to be quite cold on Saturday. This includes Omaruru in the Erongo Region, Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, and Mariental in the Hardap Region, with predicted minimum temperatures of 0°C and maximum temperatures of 17°C, 16°C, and 13°C, respectively.
Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region can expect mild conditions on Saturday, with minimum temperatures ranging between 5°C and 6°C, and maximum temperatures ranging between 18°C and 26°C. However, these areas could become cooler as the weekend progresses.
In the //Kharas Region, Aroab, Karasburg, and Keetmanshoop can anticipate minimum temperatures of 3°C, with maximum temperatures ranging between 9°C and 12°C. Keetmanshoop was also identified by Namibia Meteorological Services as one of the places that may experience thundershowers this weekend.
This weekend’s cold conditions are not only expected in the interior regions of the country. Namibia Meteorological Services predicted that the coast will likely also be cool to mild on Saturday. Thundershowers are also expected in the coastal areas, with the exception of the extreme northern coast. Walvis Bay was highlighted as one of the places that can expect rain showers on Saturday, followed by foggy conditions on Sunday.
