COLD conditions are expected in the southern, central, and eastern parts of the country this weekend, accompanied by rain showers in some central areas.
This is according to the Namibia Meteorological Services’ weather predictions, which indicate that cold Arctic air is expected in the //Kharas, Hardap, Khomas, Omaheke, and the Otjozondjupa regions on Saturday. Some places within these regions could even see sub-zero temperatures, while some areas in the Khomas Region are likely to witness rain showers on Sunday.
Windhoek was highlighted as one of the places that can expect cold and rainy conditions this weekend. In this regard, the capital city is expected to record a minimum temperature of 0°C, with a maximum temperature of 16°C on Saturday. This will likely be followed by rain showers on Sunday.
Rehoboth in the Hardap Region stands out among the places expected to record sub-zero temperatures this weekend, as predictions indicate that the town will likely see temperatures drop to -1°C on Saturday. Other areas in the Hardap Region, such as Aranos and Mariental, are also expected to be particularly cold on Saturday, with expected minimum temperatures of around 0°C and maximum temperatures ranging from 16°C to 19°C.
The //Kharas Region is likely to experience slightly higher temperatures compared to the Hardap Region. Nevertheless, the southern region will likely still feel cold, with expected minimum temperatures ranging from 3°C to 4°C in Aroab, Aus, Keetmanshoop, and Karasburg on Saturday.
The effects of the cold Arctic air won’t spare the Otjozondjupa and Omaheke regions either. Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region are projected to see minimum temperatures between 5°C and 7°C. Meanwhile, Gobabis in the Omaheke Region is expected to record a minimum temperature of 0°C, with a maximum temperature of 18°C on Saturday.
