As the Namibian sun dances high in the sky and the relentless warmth embraces our days, there’s an unspoken call for refreshing drinks that is just there.
Apart from the random gym bottle of water that I see seemingly accompanying everyone around town these days, you need something a little less “ordinary”, and for the weekend, perhaps, a little more exciting.
We all know a thing or two about beating the heat, and for us, it’s all about the balance between cool, naughty sips and uncomplicated deliciousness. Today, we’re dishing out some easy-to-create summer cocktails that will have you toasting to the golden moments of summer.
Namibian summers are about embracing the sun, enjoying the company of friends and indulging in the simple pleasures of life, while we have the time to do so.
Life is too short to not be able to enjoy a simple, easy cocktail in our homes or backyards. We need to pause occasionally and just breathe.
These easy and delightful cocktail recipes will add a splash of joy to your gatherings, ensuring you stay cool and refreshed during the scorching summer days.

Desert Breeze Mojito
Ingredients:
- Fresh mint leaves
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Juice of two limes
- 60 ml white rum
- Soda water
- Ice
- Fresh mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions:
- In a glass, break down the mint leaves and sugar with the back of a wooden spoon, or a muddler, to release the mint’s flavours.
- Squeeze in the lime juice and add the white rum (you can skip the rum for an equally good virgin option).
- Top up the glass with soda water and ice.
- Stir gently and garnish with fresh mint sprigs.
- Put on your shades, sit back and enjoy. Cheers to the desert breeze and enjoy your mojito!
Sundowner Delight
Ingredients:
- 30 ml Amarula cream liqueur
- 30 ml coconut rum
- 60 ml pineapple juice (I use the juice from the tin with the sliced pineapples)
- Ice
- Pineapple slice for garnish
Instructions:
- Fill a glass with ice.
- Pour in Amarula cream liqueur and coconut rum.
- Top with pineapple juice and stir well.
- Garnish with a pineapple slice and enjoy the Namibian-Caribbean vibes!
Namibian Iced Tea Twist
Ingredients
- Two black tea bags (add three if using rooibos tea)
- 250 ml boiling water
- 30 ml vodka (omit for non-alcoholic version)
- 15 ml peach schnapps (optional)
- 15 ml lemon juice
- One tablespoon honey
- Lemon slices for garnish
- Ice
Instructions:
- Steep the tea bags in boiling water for five to seven minutes, then let it cool.
- Fill a glass with ice and add vodka, peach schnapps and lemon juice.
- Pour the cooled tea over the mixture.
- Stir in honey for a touch of sweetness.
- Garnish with lemon slices and enjoy your spiked Namibian Iced Tea!
Cucumber Lemonade Chiller
Ingredients:
- One cucumber, thinly sliced
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 30 ml gin
- 15 ml simple syrup
- Soda water
- Ice
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- In a shaker, muddle cucumber slices and lemon juice.
- Add gin and simple syrup, then shake well.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour the mixture over it.
- Top up with soda water and stir gently.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves and savour the chillax vibes!
