THE City of Windhoek’s Management Committee remains incomplete after the council failed to elect members of the committee once more at a meeting held last week. Currently, the management committee, which is meant to have five members, only consists of three persons, including Swapo party councillors Sam Nujoma, Austin Kweneni, and Fransina Kahunga. Swapo party’s Queen Kamati was elected as Mayor last year in December, while Joseph Uapingene from the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) was elected as the deputy mayor. Subsequently, elections for the management committee members were conducted; however, only three members were elected last year.
The management committee is responsible for the oversight of council activities and ensuring decisions are successfully implemented. After witnessing that there were no nominations, the district magistrate Ndapewa Celma Amadhila called for an adjournment of the elections for the management committee to 8 February 2024. “Last year, when the elections were adjourned, most members indicated they would not be available on this day,” Former CoW Mayor Fransina Kahungu pointed out. The absence of these councillors has disrupted the process of filling the remaining two management committee positions.
