An unrepentant and dangerous suspect facing robbery, rape, kidnapping and assault charges, has been rearrested after escaping from the Onandjokwe hospital while under police guard.
The suspect, who was held at the Oluno prison at Ondangwa, allegedly pretended to be unwell on Wednesday morning, and was taken to the hospital.
He escaped at around 13h00 on the same day and fled.
The suspect cannot be named as he is yet to appear in court on Friday.
“The suspect is a well known, unrepentant, dangerous criminal who is facing charges of four counts of robbery, one of rape, one trespassing, kidnapping and assault of police officer,” Oshana acting police commander Ottilie Kashuupulwa said.
Kashuupulwa said the police managed to trace the suspect as he ran barefoot from Oniipa to Ouluno’s Onguta location.
“Police carefully traced him and community members along the way informed the police of a person who passed their way running like a mad man, and we managed to catch up with him and apprehend him at Onguta location,” said Kashuupulwa.
