Detailed 2023 Census results to be released Wednesday

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) is set to release comprehensive data from the 2023 housing and population census on Wednesday.

Conducted late last year, the 2023 census provided preliminary results in March, estimating Namibia’s population at approximately 3.1 million.

Paulina Ingo, NSA’s executive for demographic and social statistics, told Desert Radio yesterday that the upcoming results will include a broader range of data collected.

“Many detailed statistics are yet to be released on 30 October, which will cover additional matters and issues based on the collected data,” Ingo said.

She emphasised the significance of these detailed statistics, noting that institutions such as the government, policymakers, researchers, civil society and international organisations rely on the 2023 population and housing census results for planning and resource allocation.

“The census is conducted every ten years. The last one was in 2011, which is outdated. Now, having the 2023 results, it’s crucial to use this updated information for planning and to inform policymaking,” Ingo said.

According to her, planning for the 2023 census began as early as 2018, highlighting the extensive resources and time needed for such a complex exercise.

The NSA is also expected to release the 2023 Labour Force Thematic Report on 29 January 2025, which is based on data from the 2023 housing and population census.
