EIF hands over Ecosystem-based Adaptation grants

The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) handed over Ecosystem-based Adaptation grants to 34 community organisations. The organisations received over N$88.3 million in cash and certificates.

The natural-based organisations aim to address climate change through ecosystem-based adaptation.

Located in landscapes, these projects cover more than 200,000 square kilometres of land and are home to 216,000 people, representing about 7.5% of the population.

With this funding, about 3,500 climate-resilient job opportunities will be created in rural areas across Namibia.

Among the natural-based organisations that received grand prizes are Gaingu Conservancy from Erongo Region, Otjimbingwe Independent Development from Erongo Region, and Tsiseb Conservation from Kunene Region.

The Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, says that the occasion marks a milestone in the Ministry’s collective efforts to safeguard the environment and build resilience in the face of climate change.

He says the project demonstrates the potential for implementing ecosystem-based adaptation strategies.

Minister Shifeta and Deputy Minister of Finance Maureen Hinda-Mbuende handed over the certificates.
