ELCIN, the largest Christian denomination in Namibia, has decreed the coming Sunday as a day of nationwide prayer in remembrance of the late President Hage Geingob.
According to the church’s secretary-general, Dr. John Haufiku, the Church leadership held a meeting on the 5th and 6th of February where it was decided to hold special prayer sessions in all the ELCIN parishes countrywide.
“Namibia, our country, lost her leader, President Hage Geingob. The whole nation is mourning… God is our only consolation,” he said in a statement.
The prayer sessions are an opportunity for believers to pray in unison and to entrust the nation to God. All ELCIN parishes are mandated to ring the church bells between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
Congregants are to console one another and remember all of God’s blessings during the late President’s reign. They are permitted to deliver short speeches and do whatever else is appropriate for the day, and entreat the Almighty to give Namibia equally competent leaders to rule the country according to God’s will.
Late President Geingob was a Christian in good standing and played an active role in the activities of his Church.
