BARTHOLOMEWS Shimbinda, a Walvis Bay-based police officer who was arrested and granted N$1,000 bail in a case of possession of stolen property, may face additional charges depending on the outcome of an ongoing police investigation. The police are investigating his possible involvement in a case of murder after a cellphone belonging to a murder victim, Vernon Gavin, was allegedly found in his possession.
Gavin was attacked, raped, and murdered in his bedroom on 30 December. A cellphone stolen from Gavin was allegedly found in the possession of policeman Shindimba. The discovery of the cellphone quickly led to the arrest of two youngsters — Sem Moses and Quanito van Vuuren — who have already appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s court on charges of rape and murder. They were remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to April for further police investigations.
The police are currently investigating the extent of Policeman Shindimba’s involvement in the case.
