During recent elections of office bearers, two women, Dina Namubes and Irene Simeon-Kurtz, have retained their mayoral positions in Swakopmund and Usakos, respectively.

Their re-election affirms their strong leadership and commitment to their respective communities.

Namubes, who has already served one term as the Mayor of Swakopmund, has been reelected to continue her role. She took over from Louisa Kativa in 2022 and has since earned the trust and support of the community.

In her acceptance speech, Namubes highlighted the unique and harmonious nature of the Swakopmund Town Council.

She said that despite occasional disagreements, council members always leave the chamber with smiles on their faces, a testament to their commitment to working together for the betterment of Swakopmund.

Namubes expressed her deep honour in serving the Swakopmund community, acknowledging their active engagement, questions, advice, and unwavering support through both good and challenging times.

She pledged to serve with humility, dignity, and adherence to the rule of law, with a primary focus on the well-being of Swakopmund’s residents.

Namubes reaffirmed the council’s commitment to continued cooperation with all relevant parties, ensuring the town’s future objectives are met effectively.

In Usakos, Irene Simeon-Kurtz was elected as the Mayor during a recent special council meeting.

Simeon-Kurtz called for unity among council members to maintain the town’s progress and development.

She stressed the importance of working together to address the town’s challenges and drive positive change.

The recent elections marked a significant moment in the Erongo Region’s governance, with women continuing to lead and contribute to the development of their respective communities.
