FARMERS in Oshikoto Region have been urged to increase their level of caution and guard against livestock theft by the police.
This request was made in response to an incidence of livestock theft that was reported at Farm Tsumore in Tsumeb on Monday.
Oshikoto Community Affairs Officer Inspector Ellen Nehale said a 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing a cow worth N$11 950.
“It is alleged that the suspect entered the victim’s farm and slaughtered one (1) cow using snare wires that he had set up,” she said.
She added that the police recovered a carcass.
Nehale then warned the public to be more vigilant at all times.
“Due to escalating Stock Theft in Oshikoto Region, livestock owners are advised to be vigilant at all times and count their animals on a daily basis,” she said.
Further, she advised farmers to acquire the necessary documents, a transportation Permit from veterinary offices when transporting animals to prevent stock theft.
