FIVE families lost all their household items, documents, and other personal belongings after a fire engulfed their houses in the DRC location of Swakopmund on Wednesday. There were no injuries and no fatalities.
According to the police, the fire started in one shack around 14:00 before spreading to four others in the vicinity. Police officers and firefighters from the Swakopmund Municipality eventually managed to extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading farther into the informal settlement.
The police said that only a few items could be saved from the five burnt-out shacks. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
