FNB continues to blame clients for eWallet theft



The First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) has said all the eWallet thefts recorded by the bank were through the customer’s compromised one-time pin (OTP).

This is despite clients last week saying they never shared their OTPs with anyone and lashing out at the bank for “refusing to take responsibility”.

Speaking during a media briefing on the theft on Monday, FNB executive for retail banking Nangula Kauluma said the bank has been closely working with law enforcement to apprehend the perpetrators, as they have taken the victims’ outcry seriously.

“The Namibian Police has even incorporated a task force to specifically look into digital fraud cases,” said Kauluma.

The bank currently has 1,3 million eWallet holders and only 788 transactions out of this number have been affected by these thefts between August 2022 and August 2023.
