France is facing a fresh outbreak of Covid-19, with 900 people taken to the ER/A&E with the disease between 31 July and 6 August. According to the French daily newspaper Le Monde, SARS-CoV-2 is causing a slight uptick in cases and emergency room visits in many regions throughout France. The emergence of the EG.5.1 variant, close to XBB and now dominant in France, raises questions about the relevance of current bivalent vaccines.
