THE Gambling Board is set to provide training for nurses, social workers, and medical officers in the counselling of individuals struggling with gambling addiction.
This was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism’s spokesperson, Romeo Muyunda, who said that the Gambling Board, appointed by the Environment Ministry, considers providing support for those with gambling addiction problems as one of its key mandates.
“The Gambling Board is committed in ensuring that a responsible gambling problem program should be embarked upon to support those with addiction to gambling activities,” Muyunda said.
One of the responsibilities of the Gambling Board is to safeguard the interests of the public engaged in gambling and related activities. Established in accordance with the Gaming and Entertainment Control Act of 2018, the Board’s role is to regulate and oversee gaming and gambling activities, ensuring their proper control, enforcement, and licensing.
The first training session for professionals responsible for counselling gambling addicts is scheduled for next Tuesday in Swakopmund, Erongo Region.
