CASES of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) are currently increasing at an alarming rate in the Oshana Region, with more intervention needed to put a stop to the abuse of people.
The Namibian Police Force in the Oshana Region has recorded a total of 301 domestic violence and 80 rape cases in the last eight months.
NamPol Deputy Commissioner Nico Steenkamp revealed this to Informanté, saying that they are working hard to curb crime in the region.
“We are boots on the ground,” he added.
Minister of Gender Equality Doreen Sioka recently called on Namibians, especially men, to refrain from killing their women and to be good examples for the youth.
She said whatever they do, the youth imitate.
“Fathers, be fathers and stop being criminals. Look after your children, your wives, and stop the bloodshed,” she said.
On the issue of rape, Sioka said it is now worrisome when people turn to rape their own children in their own homes.
She then called on NamPol to arrest the perpetrators so that the law can deal with all of them.
