THE Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) has built close to 7 000 houses in various locations across the country.
This was highlighted by the fund’s outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Nuyoma, following his farewell courtesy call with President Hage Geingob. During the courtesy call, Nuyoma expressed his gratitude for the enabling environment that the government, under the leadership of President Geingob, has provided. He emphasized that it is this environment that allowed the fund to flourish.
He also expressed his appreciation for the government granting the fund the autonomy to make decisions in the best interest of its members.

According to Nuyoma, GIPF has achieved a lot during his tenure as CEO. One of these achievements, he added, is the construction of nearly 7 000 houses in various areas, including Otjomuise, Osona, Keetmanshoop, Eenhana, Katima Mulilo, Walvis Bay, and Swakopmund, among others.
Another achievement, according to him, is the reduction of turnaround times for pension payouts.
“One of them (the achievements) is the turnaround times we take to pay out our pensioners once they retire. Of any claims that are being made, be it funeral benefits, it takes now less than 12 hours to effect those changes,” he said.
Furthermore, he revealed that the fund is in “a good state” financially, as its value has increased by N$100 billion.
“When I joined the fund, we had the value of just over about N$58 billion. Today we have added an additional N$100 billion, so we are standing at N$157 billion as per the last count,” he explained.
President Geingob thanked Nuyoma for his exceptional and effective leadership at the helm of GIPF. Nuyoma has been the CEO of GIPF since 2013. He will continue to serve as the fund’s CEO for the next two months as the fund is still in the process of recruiting the next CEO. The GIPF Board has therefore requested him to continue in his role until the appointment of the new CEO is finalized.
