IN response to a concerning surge in criminal activities targeting tourists, Gondwana Collection Namibia is proud to introduce the “Tourism Heroes” campaign.

This initiative aims to reward, recognise, and support individuals and entities that play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, hospitality, kindness, care, and preservation of Namibian tourism. Gondwana Collection Namibia has shown its commitment to this cause by contributing N$1,000,000 (one million Namibian dollars) – N$500,000 in cash and N$500,000 in-kind donations facilitated through the Gondwana Care Trust.

Christiaan Jacobie, Senior Content Architect at Gondwana, explained that Namibia, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and warm hospitality, has recently faced challenges that threaten the safety of its visitors.

“The ‘Tourism Heroes’ campaign seeks to address these issues by shining a spotlight on those who go above and beyond to safeguard tourists and enhance their experience,” Jacobie said.

The official launch of the “Tourism Heroes” campaign is scheduled for Tuesday, 19th September 2023, at The Parliament of the Republic of Namibia at 15:45 PM.

The objectives of this campaign, Jacobie explained, include reducing incidents involving tourists, nurturing a sense of Namibian pride and responsibility for tourist safety, fostering community unity to create a safe and welcoming environment, and emphasizing the economic significance of the tourism industry in Namibia.

“It underscores the importance of collective efforts to support this vital industry, which contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), provides income for rural communities, generates employment, and much more. By recognizing and rewarding individuals who demonstrate exceptional care and support for tourists, often those who go unnoticed, we aim to make Namibia the preferred destination for tourists to experience true hospitality in Africa. In conclusion, we cordially invite fellow organizations and individuals to join hands with us in this noble endeavor. We earnestly urge the Namibian community to actively nominate their Tourism Heroes. – The heroic stories can be submitted via a hotline on WhatsApp: +264-81-160-3466 and an email address: [email protected]. Emails can be addressed to the Tourism Heroes Coordinator,” Jacobie concluded.
