IN the quest to address the issue of water shortage in the country, the government drilled about 146 boreholes in various regions, with 97 commissioned.
President Nangolo Mbumba revealed this during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered in Parliament on Thursday.
Mbumba said that, in addition, 51 boreholes and 45 water supply points were rehabilitated during the financial year 2023/24.
“To enhance the availability of water, 310,000 litres of water were supplied to rural communities,” he said.
He added that increasing uranium prices and a burgeoning green hydrogen sector foreshadow a sharp increase in the demand for water in the Erongo and //Kharas regions.
Mbumba indicated that it is critical that they accelerate their plans to build desalinated water facilities in our coastal regions to support industrial development.
