The Opuwo Urban Constituency Councillor, Ueutjerevi Ngunaihe, has expressed dissatisfaction over the criteria set for the Youth for Green Hydrogen Scholarship programme. Ngunaihe, who was speaking at the information sharing session conducted by the Southern Africa Science Services Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) in Opuwo, stated that the set standards’ disadvantage marginalised residents of the Kunene Region.

SASSCAL is undertaking regional workshops in four selected regions, namely Kunene, Erongo, ||Kharas, and Hardap, on the ongoing scholarship programme for 2024. Some of the set criteria include that eligible candidates be aged between 18 and 35 and hold a degree or at least level 2 qualification from a VTC related to the Green Hydrogen Project.

This criteria, Ngunaihe says, does not fully complement the skills possessed by youth in Kunene, given their generally disadvantaged background.

Ngunaihe encouraged applicants to apply for what he termed a ‘good opportunity,’ while advising them to quality-check their applications before handing them in.

Opuwo’s Mayor Rosa Mbinge-Tjeundo urged applicants to apply for the scholarship programme, adding that there are presently sufficient opportunities for one to choose from, unlike in the past.
