The Hardap Dam Resort near Mariental, which offers a range of water activities, has seen a drop in the occupancy rate due to the low Hardap Dam water levels.
This was revealed by the Public Relations Officer of Namibia Wildlife Resort, Nelson Ashipala.
Ashipala told nbc News the average occupancy rate over the past three months at the resort, which NWR manages, is around 11%.
“The rainy season did not only affect, you know, your normal farmer; it cannot only affect food production in the country. It also affects tourism, mostly for camps such as Hardap Dam, where we are right now. Around this time, one would see anglers all over the dam trying to catch the big ones. Unfortunately, that number has drastically decreased. Obviously, it is quite a concern for us.”
Ashipala said plans are to strengthen the resorts’ conference facility to offset the declining occupancy rate.
Ashipala urged motorists to travel safely amid the surge in traffic during the upcoming festive season.
