THE late Ambassador Hadino Hishongwa was laid to rest at the Eenhana National Shrine on Saturday.
Mourners, including Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who represented Chief Mourner President Hage Geingob, gathered at the Shrine to pay their last tribute to the late Hishongwa.
The 80-year-old Hishongwa died at Ongwediva Medipark on August 31st, following a short illness.
In 1969, he was appointed Deputy Chief Representative of SWAPO for East Africa. For his dedication, he was promoted to a Political Diplomatic Representative in Nordic countries, Austria, Switzerland, Western Germany, and West Berlin in 1976.
In 1989, Namibia held her first election, and the late Hishongwa was one of the first members of the Constituent Assembly of 1989-1990. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Labour and Human Resources Development from 1990 to 1995 and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport from 1995 to 2005. After his tenure at Youth and Sport, he was appointed High Commissioner to neighboring Botswana.
On Heroes’ Day 2014, he was conferred the Excellent Order of the Eagle, First Class, by former President His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba.
The late Hishongwa will be remembered for his devotion to Namibia’s struggle for independence and commitment to serving his community as a Senior Headman of the Omhedi District in the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority after retirement.
