THE Minister in the Presidency, Christine //Hoebes, acting as the Special Envoy of President Nangolo Mbumba, delivered a message to President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana on Monday, commending him for the support offered to Namibia during the mourning period and burial of the late President Hage Geingob.

“President Mbumba, on behalf of the government and the Namibian people, Madam Monica Geingos, The First Lady of Namibia and Children, and indeed on his own, and the First Lady, Madam Sustjie Mbumba, commended President Masisi for the support rendered to Namibia during the mourning period and burial of the late Dr Hage G. Geingob, the third President of the Republic of Namibia,” the Namibian Presidency revealed.


During the courtesy meeting with President Masisi, //Hoebes recalled how President Masisi was the first President to pay homage following the announcement of President Geingob’s passing. She also highlighted that the relationship between Namibia and Botswana significantly improved for the benefit of their citizens under both President Masisi and President Geingob.

“//Hoebes added that the current and future administrations of Namibia will advance and build on the foundation laid by the efforts of both Presidents Masisi and Geingob,” the presidency said.

President Masisi expressed his hope and firm belief that the two countries will continue to pursue the plans and aspirations he shared with the late President Geingob, particularly in the areas of free movement of citizens, robust border management systems, and the optimal utilization of natural resources.

//Hoebes also conveyed appreciation for Botswana’s decision to hold a Memorial Service in honour of the late President Geingob. This service is scheduled to take place in Gaborone at the Gaborone International Conference Centre on March 13, starting at 8:00.

President Mbumba will also attend the Memorial Service in honour of the late President Geingob tomorrow.
