FIVE energetic Damara guys from Block E at Rehoboth are sweeping the country’s hip-hop scene off its feet.
Lil Griebo, Dena Bite, Big B, Maiz, and Shurjies are the members of Wolfpack.
They came together last year and began putting lyrics together.
Growing up without parents was difficult, Dena Bite says, which is why he resorted to music.
He says he has met four other individuals who shared the same interests and they eventually started writing lyrics together.
He says Wolfpack formally began producing songs this year, since they have been struggling to succeed in the music industry without funding to frequently travel to the studio.
“It was difficult for us to consistently go to the studio to hone our craft,” Dena Bite says.
He says eventually they were able to acquire help from Elrico Brockenhoff and Lesley Katzao of Black Child Entertainment.
“They gave us a platform by assisting us in recording some songs so we could show the world our talent.”
Wolpack has released ‘Trap President’ and ‘Sa Xu E Nana’, which have been in the spotlight recently.
‘Sa Xu E Nana’ has been on Fresh FM radio’s top-10 charts.
In an effort to resuscitate the local hip-hop scene, Wolfpack recently also released a new single called ‘Key to E’ along with a music video.
Dena Bite says: “The hit song was something different and totally new to the ears of the Namibian people. A lot of renowned musicians and well-known industry people reposted and acknowledged the talent that was cooking in the streets of Rehoboth with this new trap-and-drill song.
“We hope we will be accepted in the music industry and be able to secure some performances and shows.”
He says they still have a long way to go and have only just begun work on their next song.
Wolfpack’s influences include drill rappers from New York and the United Kingdom, such as Tion Wayne, Pop Smoke, Dthang and DD Osama.
“We want our fans to follow our journey and hear the themes of our songs, and observe our gradual progression as we move from video to video,” Dena Bite says.
The singers say to succeed in the cut-throat game, they try to improve all the time.
The band is currently working on its upcoming track, ‘Phatboy Luthor’, which is expected to be released on social media and online music outlets next month.
