JUSTUS Garoeb, the Gaob (King) of the ǂNūkhoe ǁAes (Damara community), a veteran politician and founder of the United Democratic Front (UDF), has distanced himself from his own party’s presidential candidate, Hendrik Gaobaeb, and opted to support the Vice President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is the ruling Swapo party’s presidential candidate.
He said that he wants to see a female Head of State in his lifetime.
According to a recent NBC report, Garoeb said that over the years, women have gradually moved up the political ladder and that now is the time for a woman to occupy the country’s highest position.
He spoke at an event in Okombahe that marked the 47th anniversary of his coronation as Damara king in 1977.
