THE Director-General of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze, urged leaders and stakeholders to prioritise turning the opportunities presented by the green hydrogen sector into tangible outcomes.
“As leaders and stakeholders, we bear a collective responsibility to transform these opportunities into realities. Collaboration between the public and private sectors, civil society, and academia is essential to realise the full potential of green hydrogen. This journey is not without challenges. However, I am confident that Namibia has the expertise, determination, and innovative spirit to overcome them,” he said.
Kandjoze made these remarks at the Economic Outlook: Assessing the Socioeconomic Benefits of Namibia’s Green Hydrogen Industry event. The event, organised by the Green Hydrogen Programme in collaboration with the Bank of Namibia and the Namibia Statistics Agency, aimed to assess the socioeconomic impact of the green hydrogen industry.
Kandjoze emphasised that the Green Hydrogen Programme is a comprehensive development strategy that promises to create new industries, open doors for skill development, and enhance Namibia’s competitiveness on the global stage.
“The Government of Namibia has long recognised the urgency of diversifying our economy. By embracing the transformative potential of green hydrogen, we aim to address critical socio-economic challenges, including unemployment, poverty, and inequality. This initiative also aligns with our environmental goals, contributing to global decarbonisation efforts while fostering economic resilience at home,” he added.
