Karibib man electrocuted by meat cutter at home

A 53-year-old man, Augustinus Pule Gauseb, was electrocuted at his home at Karibib on Wednesday afternoon while using an electric meat cutting machine.

Erongo police spokesperson inspector Ileni Shapumba reported that Gauseb was cutting meat for a client when he was electrocuted.

The accident occurred in the client’s presence when the meat cutting machine’s blade slipped out of position, Shapumba said.

He reported that Gauseb attempted to switch off the machine and to unplug it, which he did without first switching off the wall plug.

After Gauseb got electrocuted, his wife managed to switch off the power.

Gauseb was transported to a state clinic at Karibib.

After attempts by nurses and paramedics to resuscitate him did not succeed, Gauseb was declared dead.

A post-mortem examination is to be done to establish the cause of his death.

Shapumba said Gauseb’s next of kin have been notified and that investigations surrounding the incident are continuing.
