Katima Mulilo, 25 July – Namibians from all corners of the country have flocked to Katima Mulilo to celebrate and commemorate important days on the calendar. This year’s commemoration of Africa Public Service Day is being held in the mighty Zambezi Region, specifically in Katima Mulilo.
The festivities have brought joy to numerous owners of accommodation facilities in Katima Mulilo, as all of them are fully booked until the beginning of next week. Some latecomers are now struggling to find accommodation, with a few opting to pitch tents or lodge at some establishments.
The event, taking place from today until the 27th of July, has seen government officials descending on the border town. Speaking to NDN, Simasiku Martin, a guest house manager at one of the popular local guest houses, expressed excitement that, for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic, all their rooms are fully booked. Some civil servants had started making their booking arrangements two months ago, leaving those who arrived without bookings shocked to find most establishments around town already fully occupied. Consequently, some people have been stranded, forced to commute up to 110 kilometers outside of town to find the next available accommodation establishment.
