Some residents in Katima Mulilo celebrated the annual Solidarity Christmas lunch and charity event for the less privileged.
The event, which was hosted by Passione Restaurant in collaboration with the Angolan consulate and the Cuban Doctors Brigade in Katima Mulilo, mainly targets children from underprivileged families.
Speaking at the event, the organiser and managing director of Passione Restaurant, Anna Stella, said the event aims to bring together those who may not be able to enjoy the festive season due to a lack of resources.
“We brought you here, we know it’s December, and we know it’s not Christmas Day yet, but we would like to celebrate Christmas today with you, so today it’s a celebration for all of us. It’s Christmas for us, so when it’s Christmas, it’s a happy day. When it’s Christmas, it’s a beautiful eating, drinking, and celebrating day, so let us all collaborate and be happy.”
This year, 300 children, most of whom are based in areas such as Makaravani, Chotto, and Cowboy, benefited from the charity luncheon.
They also received stationery, exercise books, and backpacks in preparation for going back to school in January.
The event additionally included engagements with the doctors from the Katima Mulilo State Hospital with both children and their parents on issues pertaining to oral health and maternity health and provided oral health care kits for the children.
The organisers called on those willing to collaborate or individually give back to the community, especially during the festive season, to do so.
