The election of a chairperson of the management committee for Katima Mulilo Town Council was deadlocked, with members unable to choose a nominee to occupy the seat.

The three nominated members for the position were Charles Musialike from the Independent Patriots for Change, Namangolwa Mapenzi, and Chizabulyo Simanga, both from the Swapo Party.

Katima’s newly elected mayor, John Ntemwa, called for the postponement of the election of a chairperson to allow for further consultations after Musialike walked out of the proceedings.

Ntemwa, who is the former chairperson of the management committee, was voted in as the new mayor after winning against Lister Shamalaza.

Ntemwa and Shamalaza, both from Swapo, were nominated candidates for the position, with Ntemwa winning with four votes against three.

Popular Democratic Movement’s Lasken Sikosi retains his position as deputy mayor, while Simasiku Mukendwa and Lister Shamalaza remain ordinary members of the council.

Magistrate Davy Kambinda presided over the swearing-in of political office bearers.
