KING Johannes Mupiya of the Ongandjera Traditional Authority has commended the Okahao Town Council for its initiative to host the annual Ehao Cultural Expo, stating that such an important event brings numerous benefits to the community.
King Mupiya, the patron of the Ehao Expo currently taking place in Okahao, Omusati Region, sent his message through senior traditional councillor Sion Sheehama, as he was unable to attend the Expo’s official opening ceremony.
During the ceremony, the mayor of Okahao town, Cornelia Iiyambula, welcomed the exhibitors and visitors to the town. She explained the meanings of Okahao and Ehao, stating that the former means “small clay pot” while the latter refers to a relatively bigger clay container.
Omusati Regional Governor Erginus Endjala, speaking at the same event, emphasized the importance of a trade/cultural expo and expressed hope that visitors today would become investors in the future.
David Sheehama, the Managing Director of Kambwa Trading Cc, the main sponsor of the event, encouraged the revival of indigenous technologies as a means to generate income and eradicate poverty.
Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni was also present and introduced the keynote speaker of the day, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.
The event commenced with a prayer by retired Lutheran pastor Reverend Tylves Taanyanda, who expressed that God’s blessings are upon those who work to make a living for themselves and their families.
This year’s event attracted approximately 120 exhibitors, including small and medium enterprises, as well as large corporations, various ministries, parastatals, and government agencies.
