Kunene Region identified as economic growth hub

The Kunene Region is viewed as a potential economic engine, capable of fostering prosperity and enhancing the livelihoods of its residents and Namibia as a whole.

However, significant improvements are still needed in infrastructure, mining, tourism, and communication to fully unlock the region’s potential.

These views were shared by various speakers at the 22nd Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab Lecture Series held in Opuwo today (Monday).

During the event, John Kasaona, the Executive Director of Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation, highlighted the region’s unique environmental landscape, which presents opportunities in the tourism sector.

However, Kasaona stressed that achieving desired outcomes in tourism requires a robust eco-tourism strategy and a sustainable tourism plan tailored specifically for the region.

He explained that these strategies will play a crucial role in protecting the area’s delicate environment and cultural diversity.

Additionally, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, committed the ministry’s resources, within its mandate, to support programs aimed at building skills among the youth in mining, tourism, and entrepreneurship.
