Travellers using the Ngoma Border Post were delayed Sunday morning due to a lack of manpower.
The Ngoma Border Post opens at six o’clock every day, but this morning it opened 30 minutes late because there was no immigration officer.
When the nbc News team arrived at the border, there was only one immigration officer serving at both the departure and arrival counters.
The immigration officer was initially off and sick and had to drive to Katima Mulilo for medical treatment and still return to work to assist.
According to the information gathered, the immigration officer who was supposed to be on duty was also admitted to the hospital, while another is on leave.
During our time there, the Acting Immigration Deputy Director for the Zambezi Region, Ivan Mushanana, managed to bring in two immigration officials from the Katima Mulilo Border Post to assist.
Immigration Deputy Director Daisy Musweu told nbc News over the phone that she was aware of the situation of a lack of manpower at the Ngoma Border Post.
The situation affected not only travellers but also other border service providers such as Customs, Road Fund Administration, and clearing agents because they could not attend to travellers who were not cleared by immigration.
