THE Namibian Police Force in the Oshana Region continues to carry out awareness campaigns in various schools as part of informing and educating learners about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.
On Thursday, members of the Nampol Community Policing Sub-division visited Okadila Combined School in the Onamutai circuit, where a demonstration was held to showcase how a K-09 can detect hidden drugs.
Speaking to the learners, Olavi Panduleni called on parents to stop gossiping with their children, as this leads to disrespect for fellow parents and teachers.
Panduleni urged parents to build a good relationship with their children so they can be open and speak out when confronted by challenges in life.
“When children are disciplined at schools, parents should not come and fight the teachers,” he said.
He then urged the children to respect their elders, avoid vulgar language, and concentrate on their studies.
Panduleni stressed that children are expected to assist their parents and learn to live within their means.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Victor Nghilengwa said that learners have started indulging in illicit substances and have lost respect for their elders.
According to Nghilengwa, many children have formed gangs where they bully other learners at school, resulting in poor performance and dropouts.
He stressed that the gangster life does not pay, and the end result is either prison or death.
