THE intense heat, which has seen certain areas record maximum temperatures in the range of 36°C to 38°C over the past few days, has been slightly alleviated as some areas experienced light rainfall at the start of this week, with more rainfall anticipated for the rest of the week.
This light rainfall was experienced in various places in different regions of the country at the beginning of the week, including Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region, Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region, as well as Outjo and Khorixas in the Kunene Region. More showers are expected in various areas as the week progresses.
The Namibia Meteorological Services recently highlighted the central-northern, Kunene, Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Khomas, and Hardap regions as some of the places that can expect rainfall during the rest of this week, particularly between Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, Wednesday is not only expected to bring a few showers to the interior areas of the country but also windy conditions accompanied by very hot temperatures.
The Namibia Meteorological Services highlighted the eastern part of the country as one of the areas that will be particularly hot on Wednesday. In fact, Otjinene in the Omaheke Region is expected to record a maximum temperature of 38°C on Wednesday. This is the highest expected maximum temperature for Wednesday, which will likely only be experienced in Rundu in the Kavango East Region.
The rest of the interior, however, will not be spared from Wednesday’s heat. The South will also be quite hot as several southern towns, from Aranos in the Hardap Region to Karasburg in the //Kharas Region, are expected to record minimum temperatures ranging between 18°C and 20°C, with maximum temperatures of 36°C on Wednesday.
In contrast, the coast will likely not be as hot as the interior on Wednesday. In fact, the only common factor between the coast and the interior on Wednesday is the expectation of a few rain showers. According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, the northern coastal areas, in particular, can expect a few rain showers on Wednesday.
The coast, however, will be somewhat spared from Wednesday’s heat as most coastal towns will likely experience partly cloudy and mild to warm conditions. In this regard, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, and Lüderitz can expect minimum temperatures ranging between 12°C and 16°C, and maximum temperatures ranging between 20°C and 28°C.
