AS the country’s northern regions report abundant rainfall, the number of drowning cases continues to rise. In an effort to prevent additional deaths, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region is currently advising people to cross waterways with greater caution.
This comes after a 53-year-old man was found dead in a water pan on Wednesday at Eendamambali Oshipumbushomugongo village. The deceased was identified as Wellem Johannes from Eenguwantale village.
Oshana Community Affairs Inspector Thomas Aiyambo said that the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered drowned in a water pan by an Angolan cattle herder. Aiyambo indicated that the family members allegedly said the deceased was last seen on Tuesday at nearby Cucashops; however, he did not return home.
“The deceased, according to his sister, sometimes used to stay overnight in nearby houses when he went to the Cucashops,” he said.
