THE Namibian police in the Omusati region are currently investigating two incidents involving a firearm that is believed to have been removed from a vehicle.
The initial case is registered against the individual accused of stealing the firearm, while the second case involves the person who originally owned the firearm that was taken unlawfully.
According to Omusati Regional Commander Ishmael Basson, it is alleged that the suspect took the pistol from the complainant’s car, where it was kept, and went away with it without the owner’s consent.
However, the owner of the gun is also charged with contravention of section 38(1)(j) of the Arms and Ammunition Act, Act 7 of 1996. They are also facing criminal charges for failing to securely store the pistol in a safe or any other place of safety when the firearm was not being carried on their person.
The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday, April 22, 2023, around 20:00 at Osau location, Omukwa village, Elim constituency, in the Omusati region.
The value of the stolen pistol is N$4000, and as of yet, there has been no reported recovery or arrest. However, both suspects are known. Police investigations into the matter continue.
