The leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Martin Lukato, has been re-elected to lead the party once again at its first-ever congress since its establishment.

The congress was held at Katima Mulilo.

The Congress filled 18 portfolios, with Lukato and David Mwilima retaining their positions as President and Vice President, respectively.

Those who served in the positions of Secretary General, Vice Secretary General, National Chairperson, National Treasurer, Spokesperson, Mobilizer, and Coordinator all retained their positions.

Positions such as Legal Advisor, National Women’s League, National Youth President, National Administrator, Elders Council, and Special Advisor to the NDP President are headed by new members.

Lukato was delighted to have members appointed in different portfolios after running the affairs of the party for more than 20 years alone, he says.

Lukato encouraged the elected leaders to take the party to greater heights.

He noted that he laid a solid foundation for the party, and the new leadership must build on it.

The NDP leader reminded them that they are servants of the people who must be ready to serve and be sent to speak on behalf of the less privileged and voiceless.

NDP Chairperson Sario Sambandala urged fellow leaders to be part of the positive change brought about by people themselves.

Re-elected NDP Secretary General, Alex Linyando, called for support, advice, guidance, and commitment to realise the party’s objectives.
