THE Meat Board of Namibia has undergone a name change and will now be known as the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPB), or a shortened version, Livestock Products Namibia (LPN).

LLPB explained that the name change resulted from the publication of legislation in a Government Gazette on August 21, 2023, which introduced modifications to the range of controlled products overseen by the board. The name of the board consequently required alteration to encompass two new controlled products, namely poultry and dairy.

“In order to include the new species and products under the Meat Board banner, it was decided to change the name of the Meat Board of Namibia to the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPB), or a shortened version Livestock Products Namibia (LPN). This body will now manage the cattle (dairy, skin & hides), sheep, goats, pigs and poultry sectors,” the board explained.

LLPB added that it is currently conducting public consultations to announce the amendment of applicable Government Notices to include poultry, dairy, and hides as part of its portfolio. Additionally, the board revealed, a Government Notice outlining the imposition of levies for the management of the various new sectors has been drafted and is under review.

“As part of the public consultation process, Livestock Products Namibia aims to inform all stakeholders about the various intended Government Notices. Any inquiries can be directed to Ms Beata Xulu at 061 275 874,” LLPB said.
