BREAST, cervical, and prostate cancer are devastating diseases that affect millions of people worldwide, according to Medipark hospital Manager Sakeus Kamati.
Kamati indicated that the physical, emotional, and financial toll on patients and their families is immense. However, he said that at Ongwediva Medipark, they are committed to improving the lives of cancer patients through various initiatives, including awareness programs, educational resources, patient support services, and fundraising activities.
Thus, Kamati said that they will be hosting their 11th Breast, Cervical & Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign under the theme “Close the Care Gap: Uniting Our Voices and Taking Action.”
“This year’s Cancer Campaign will be a comprehensive effort to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment options, and three state patients with cancer-related symptoms have been identified for further management,” he said.
He added that the campaign will feature a series of events and activities, including educational seminars (CPD), survivor testimonials, and fundraising drives.
First held in 2013, the campaign has screened more than 5,000 women and men.
In 2022, the campaign also found 5 patients to have abnormal cells; these were all treated, and their treatments are ongoing.
Furthermore, Kamati said their initiative aimed at increasing awareness within their community regarding the potential risks associated with breast, cervical, and prostate cancers.
The event will be officiated by their Patron, Madam Penehupifo Pohamba.
Moreover, the campaign will commence with a Cancer Run/Walk starting at 6:00 AM and conclude with a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) presentation in the afternoon.
