NORTHERN women are set to participate in the Meme Dingi Competition, scheduled for Saturday at Oshilemba Village in the Otamanzi Constituency.
Meme Dingi is a competition for women, referred to as contestants, showcasing their cultural attire and skills.
The competition is open to women aged 40 and above, who will take the stage to vie for the title of Meme Dingi Namibia 2024.
Event organizer Ndawana Ndume said the competition will have three rounds. The first round, titled “Modern Days Imitation,” will require contestants to wear modern attire.
Ndume explained that the second round will focus on Odelela attire, while the final round will feature traditional Onguwo.
“Our event is about promoting tradition and culture, looking back to a world before Western influences,” he said.
Ndume added that the competition will take place during the Oshilemba Annual Festival, running from the 26th to the 31st of December 2024.
He said that there are 10 contestants, with the oldest being 72 years old. Contestants were selected based on their knowledge of traditional and cultural attire, products, and herbs.
Performances by several artists, including Dama Monique, Ndawana Ndume, Kaboy Kamakili, Keitu MK, and Ozonguvi za Kaoko, are expected to grace the event, among others.
