MENZIES Aviation, the international cargo handling company that has lost its bid to provide ground handling services at the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA), has responded to issues regarding critical reagents required by the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS). They state that they have made every effort to hand over this medical equipment but have been unable to access it.
The international aviation has been in a tug of war, with local company, Paragon, over the ground handling services, at HKIA.
“As you may now be aware, the critical reagents required by NamBTS should still be locked up in Menzies’ warehouse unless they have been removed by someone other than Menzies. Paragon and the NAC are aware that the first batch expires today, 7th September 2023. The next two batches will expire on 15th September 2023 and 22nd September 2023, respectively,” said Elizabeth Viljoen, Menzies’ legal representative.
She further explained that Menzies has done everything in its power to make arrangements to hand over these life-saving essentials to NamBTS or their agents. However, neither Paragon, nor the NAC, nor the NCAA, wants to cooperate.
“Menzies’ attorneys have written to Elia Shikongo, the lawyer for the NAC, to request urgent permission for the release of the reagents. He responded on 6th September 2023 at 15:03 as follows: ‘We are attending.’ He is still attending, and we have not yet received his response,” Viljoen said.
