The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises will this week kick off with a series of mid-term budget review consultations aimed at assessing the current state of the economy and devising measures to address emerging needs.
Spearheaded by minister Iipumbu Shiimi, accompanied by representatives from the National Planning Commission, these consultations will actively seek input from the business community, providing them with a platform to express their concerns, challenges and expectations from the government.
Finance spokesperson Wilson Shikoto said by encouraging open communication, the authorities hope to gain valuable insights and recommendations on policies and initiatives that can help businesses overcome obstacles and maximise their potential.
“The insights gathered during these interactions will be instrumental in formulating effective strategies and policies that are responsive to the needs of the business community.”
The regional consultations will start at Keetmanshoop on Friday, followed by a session at Mariental on Saturday.
The ministry has scheduled consultations at Otjiwarongo on 7 August, followed by a session at Katima Mulilo on 10 August and at Gobabis on 17 August.
Throughout these regional visits, Shiimi will actively engage with local government officials, community leaders and stakeholders. These interactions aim to gather invaluable insights and feedback on the implementation of fiscal policies and assess their impact on various sectors.
“The mid-term budget review and engagement with the business community underscore the government’s dedication to ensuring that fiscal policies and programmes align with the aspirations and requirements of the various regions and sectors,” Shikoto said.
