December 29, 2023December 29, 20230 Mines and Energy ministry cuts fuel prices, increases road safety council levy – The Brief is Namibia’s leading Daily Business, Finance and Economic News publication The Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced an 80 cents per litre decrease in the prices of petrol and both variants of diesel (diesel 50ppm and diesel 10ppm) for the month of January 2024. The price adjustment will be effective from the 3rd of January. In Walvis Bay, the price of petrol will thus be N$20.78 per litre, diesel 50ppm will be N$21.05 per litre, and diesel 10ppm will be N$21.25 per litre. The announcement follows the Ministry’s December 1.30 cents per litre decrease in petrol and diesel prices. Furthermore, the Mines and Energy ministry has extended the temporary relief margin of20 cents per litre for another month to oil wholesalers, extending the initial 3-month period that was initially scheduled to conclude in December 2023. The Mines and Energy ministry has also announced that the National Road Safety Council levy will be raised by 15 cents per litre, increasing it from 2.6 cents per litre to 17.6 cents per litre. “The levy plays a crucial role in spreading road safety awareness, given the nationalneed to scale up endeavors in this regard,” the ministry said.
