Minister Frans Kapofi reminds NDF of its non-political role

Members of the Namibian Defence Force were reminded not to involve themselves in politics, apart from exercising their civic duty to vote.

This reminder came from the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Frans Kapofi, during the annual staff meeting at the defence headquarters in Windhoek.

“Your only involvement is to ensure that you go, and you are expected to guarantee that you are at all times alert and ready to deal with any unwelcome situation that may seek to undermine our peace and stability. Involvement in political activities does not only entail attending political party events or wearing the insignia of political parties. It also entails getting into political debates on various platforms, including the most popular ones on social media.”

The meeting, which was attended by all senior officials of the ministry, was to share information, update on plans and objectives, and address issues such as the use of financial resources, among others.

“The financial resources apportioned to us will never be enough to cater for many needs. Let us always make sure that we use whatever we have sparingly. This includes the food for some of you on the bases. When entrusted with vehicles, we must take good care of them to prolong their lifespan. I urge you to avoid unnecessary trips because the fuel you use does not come cheap.”

He further urged the Department of Veterans Affairs to continue serving and treating veterans with respect, as they have sacrificed a lot for the country.

The minister also expressed appreciation to the soldiers for having demonstrated their capabilities throughout the planning and execution of the state funeral of the late president, Dr. Hage Geingob.
