Minister Theofelus provides update on preparations for Dr Geingob’s memorial events

The Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology, Emma Theofelus, today updated the nation on progress made in preparing for the memorial events leading up to the burial of President Hage Geingob.

The ICT Minister further warned against spreading false information regarding the funeral arrangements.

Teofelus emphasised that the public should rely solely on verified information from official channels, specifically the ICT Ministry’s online platforms and the National Broadcaster, nbc, as the premium source of information.

“I wish to address the false information that roads will be blocked or jammed and that there are 650 SADC police officers in the country. Please be assured that this information is false.”

Furthermore, amid the preparations for the funeral services, Minister Teofelus disclosed to the media and the public the confirmed number of heads of state and delegates scheduled to attend.

“I would like to inform the public that 27 countries are attending the service of the late President, 18 of the countries are led by their heads of state; and the rest of the delegation are either PMs, MPs, or ambassadors.”

As Namibia mourns and celebrates its leader, a free music festival will be held in honour of the late President on Wednesday, the 21st.

Additionally, there will be a military procession by the Namibian Defence Force with his remains around the capital, allowing citizens to honour the late President with dignity and respect.

Further details will be announced.
