THE Khomas, Otjozondjupa, and Kunene regions – which have already witnessed substantial rainfall this month – are expected to receive more rain showers as the month comes to an end.
This was predicted by Namibia Meteorological Services, which forecasted that the anticipated showers are expected to be moderate to heavy in the aforementioned regions.
Namibia Meteorological Services’ predictions further indicate that the rainfall in the Khomas and Otjozondjupa regions will likely be isolated to scattered, while there is a possibility of widespread rainfall in the Kunene Region. Residents and visitors in the Kunene Region are, therefore, advised to stay aware of potential storms, take precautions against possible flash floods, and avoid camping in seemingly dry riverbeds.
The Khomas, Otjozondjupa, and Kunene regions have already witnessed quite heavy showers this month. In fact, the Kunene and Otjozondjupa regions experienced extremely heavy storms in the first few days of February, leading to flooding in some areas. The Khomas Region, particularly in Windhoek, witnessed a similar fate in the middle of the month.
Windhoek has once again been identified as one of the places to see more showers tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday.
While the Khomas, Otjozondjupa, and Kunene regions will likely experience the most substantial rainfall from tomorrow onwards, a few other interior areas from the North to the South are also expected to see rainfall this week. Namibia Meteorological Services has highlighted Rundu, Ondangwa, and even Keetmanshoop as some of the places that will likely experience rain showers this week.
Certain places have already received decent rainfall as this week started. This includes Khomas Region’s Okahua and Omateva, which recorded 34 millimetres (mm) and 19mm of rain, respectively, between Monday and Tuesday morning. Additionally, Zambezi Region’s Katima Mulilo and Otjozondjupa Region’s Otjiwarongo recorded 6.5mm and 5.2mm of rain during the same period.
