Muinjo remembers Geingob – The Namibian

Namibia Football Association (NFA) honourary president John Muinjo has added his message to the chorus of tributes to late head of state Hage Geingob.

Muinjo remembers Geingob for his passion and support for sport.

“The memories I have of the former president and patron of the NFA is that he was an ardent sports lover who stood behind all national sports codes and teams,” says Muinjo.

Muinjo highlights the Dr Hage Geingob Cup as an example of Geingob’s sporting and philanthropic legacy.

The annual event was launched in 2014, towards the end of Muinjo’s final term as NFA president.

“In 2014, when we hosted the Women Championship, the CAF president Issa Hayatou couldn’t believe that Geingob would be the first to be at the stadium attending all group matches of all countries till the final,” Muinjo recalls.

“I will remember him as a pillar of strength, an indomitable go-getter who perfected the art of professionalism at all levels. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Geingob will be buried at the Heroes Acre in Windhoek on Sunday.

This means that Namibians will have Monday, 26 February, as a holiday, given that the public holiday falls on a Sunday.
